Day 1 Of Bassline TV - A Success

Maia Williamson

The students of the NZBS have been working tirelessly to make this baby come to life and here it is... ALIVE! Curious to see how it all went? Have a geeeeez ⬇️

A group of confused, apprehensive faces sat in the NZBS studio months ago, unsure about the proposal of having to make a live radio show into a TV show. We were tasked with expanding our pre-standing brand 'Bassline' into a multi-platform brand, in an 'Extravaganza' fashion. It's a large beast to tackle, hence the apparent concern and fear.

Nonetheless, our students went to work. And it turned out much better than could've imagined.

Cue - the beginning of Bassline TV on Freeview Channel 200, debuting on the 18th of November.

Bassline 96.1's 'The Double Shot' with Harry and Zoe is simulcast on TV and radio. The first couple of days have proven to be a success. The pair have played live challenges, such as Jenga, blind ranking 10 foods and 'Guess What's In The Box?', or my personal favorite, a dance off with Ron Gueverra (who you'll hear about later). They have hosted live performances, with local talent Tay Renee and Bex from Tealskie. Most importantly, there has been some great chat. Whether you're listening on radio or tuning in on Channel 200, it is not worth missing this duo.

Double Shot reinvented

The first episodes of 'On The Line' were aired, which showed the 2 contestants Maia and Harrison battling away at different (very niche) challenges. Episode 1 was 1v1 in tennis. Just to clarify, neither of them have played tennis, so that'll give you a little insight into how the episode looks. Episode 2 was Fashion Revamp, in which the two picked out ridiculous outfits for one another, then were tasked to revamp them into somewhat wearable - don't fear, they had the professional help of fashion students. It's safe say Harrison and Maia are very happy to laugh at themselves!

'Rhythm and Kai' made its debut, with Host Alby from 1 Fish 1 Scoop. Episode 1 was a sit down yarn with Ben from Tealskie, and Episode 2 was Ron Gueverra, a man talented in all aspects of music. Both of them sat down and chatted over some fish and chips about themselves and their careers, in which some interesting details were shared. Both of them then came back to be a guest with The Double Shot on Day 2. How good!

The last of our TV series was 'The Roady' with Zoe and Sam embarking on the adventure of a lifetime around the South Island. The first episode consisted of adrenaline-pumping activities, with Zoe bungee jumping and Sam jet boating in the beautiful Hanmer Springs. Episode 2 saw the two head to Mariua Hot pools, with a nice nature walk, a dip in the hot springs, and the highlight of the episode, Sam doing a cold plunge. Big thanks to the team at 'The Roady App' for making the trip possible. Download the app to find, do and share your NZ travel experiences.

A feature show 'Upward Spiral' was included, with the beginning of Timothy's journey of being stuck in a 9-5pm time loop. These 2 episodes were really intriguing, with a nice touch of humor too. I don't want to spoil too much, you'll just have to watch for yourself.

Lastly, News On The Menu came to air, and flowed beautifully. We had some interesting stories from around the country made by our own journalists, as well as live crosses to our mates Cam Ross and Brie Ellen-Harding. NOTM is a creative way to casually deliver the important stuff, in order to make it easy for YOU to digest.

Our students took big risks and worked extremely hard to make things possible, and it was a rewarding experience seeing it all come to light.
