Daniel Caeser feat. Kali Uchis - Get You Review

Edison Chapman

Welcome back to the Bassline Review. This week, I’m stepping into some unfamiliar territory for me with Daniel Caesar & Kali Uchis.

Daniel Caesar at Mod Club Theatre Toronto, 2017

Pre-Listening Thoughts

This week’s review, I will be listening to Get You by Daniel Caesar feat. Kali Uchis. Daniel Caesar is an artist I know close to nothing about. The only time I’ve ever heard his voice was on Justin Bieber’s Peaches, and I think Daniel completely carried that song with his verse. Kali Uchis is an artist I know a little more about, having heard Telepatia, Moonlight, and See You Again with Tyler, The Creator. I’m very excited to step into this new territory and listen to Get You

Post-listening thoughts

If there’s anything you should know about how I enjoy music by now, it would be how much I enjoy their voices. Loved Frank Ocean’s, loved Beyoncé’s, and Daneil Caeser and Kali Uchis also excel at having good singing voices. The song has a really nice chill vibe that I can get behind. The production and instrumental is minimalist and compliments the vocals very well. Almost the opposite of how Love on Top from last week’s review did it. There, Beyoncé was loud and over the top in her delivery whereas Daniel and Kali are performing a much more quiet and calm song. I really love the slow drums and bass that play throughout the track. Kali Uchis is on this track less than I would’ve wanted. It takes her three minutes to start singing and is gone again before you know it. Luckily, she comes back right at the

Get You is a lovely song about finding solace in a relationship after hard times and wondering what they did in the world to deserve this while also being grateful for it. Daniel himself has stated that the song was praising a love he didn’t think he deserved at a low point of his life. I find this song to be beautiful and I’ve grown to love it more and more with every listen.
