Pre-Listening Thoughts

Beyoncé isn’t an artist who I personally listen to a lot. I’m familiar with a lot of her songs, but not many of them have really stuck out to me. I listened to Cowboy Carter in its entirety when it released earlier this year, but that was just me excited for the current country bandwagon in popular music right now. If I had to pick a favourite Beyoncé song, It would probably be Cuff It from her Renaissance album. It’s a fun dance tune that gets me hyped every time I hear it. I really like when she lent her voice for that one Coldplay song, Hymn for The Weekend. (I’m a little boring, okay?) I’m interested in giving Love On Top a re-listen and see if I like it or not.

Post-Listening Thoughts

Let’s just get the obvious out of the way and say that Beyoncé’s voice is as beautiful as it always has been, and it really sounds like she’s trying to push it to its limit on this song. It’s a super fun infectiously catchy RnB disco pop fusion where everything comes together perfectly.  The instrumental doesn’t do anything too crazy or notable, but it suits the song really well and compliments the main appeal, Beyoncé’s voice. I personally loved how each chorus repeat went up a key. There’s a certain sound to this song that makes it sound older than it is, like it came out 20-30 years prior. It’s very reminiscent of classic retro RnB and I like that a lot

Official Rating: 10/10

Listening to this really makes me feel like I have been missing out on a lot and will most likely check out more of Queen Bey’s music later. This song is very very good. I like it a lot. 10/10

Be sure to listen to this song and more just like it on Bassline
